VINCI Airports starts 1st phase of renovation and expansion works at Salvador Bahia Airport

VINCI Airports, which officially took over the operations of Salvador Bahia airport on January 2nd, held on April 19 a foundation stone ceremony to mark the beginning of the first phase of renovation and expansion works at the airport. The event gathered top regional and airport authorities, including Bahia’s Governor Rui Costa, Salvador’s Mayor ACM Neto and José Ricardo Botelho, President of the National Civil Agency. VINCI Airports’ President Nicolas Notebaert and Salvador Bahia Airport’s CEO Julio Ribas hosted the ceremony.

The first phase of works will allow passengers and airlines to see positive changes in a relatively short time. Those involve major works of expansion and compliance of the airside infrastructures, construction of a new boarding lounge (+20,000 sqm) and refurbishment of the existing terminal. Works, allowing better flows and new experiences for all the passengers, include a new commercial area highlighting Salvador’s identity, modernization of toilets and changing rooms, improvements in airport signage, new air conditioning and ventilation systems, additional elevators and escalators and free high-speed wifi installation.

They will be conducted by a local consortium formed by Teixeira Duarte Engenharia e Construções S.A, Alves Ribeiro S.A do Brasil and Actemium (subsidiary of VINCI Énergies), Brazilian construction companies with extensive experience in infrastructure projects, including at Lisbon airport which is also managed by VINCI Airports. During the peak period, the worksite will employ around 800 workers. Total investment for this first phase of works will add up to around 600 million BRL.

We are eager to work together with local authorities and trade organizations to make that happen”, he added. “VINCI Airports has global experience in redesigning the airport experience for passengers and fostering the traffic. We will combine our expertise with the experience of our strong local team to achieve our objectives”, he concluded.

 

VINCI Airports takes over operations of Salvador International Airport

After two initial transition phases, during which VINCI Airports prepared and started implementing its transition plan while Infraero continued running the airport with its assistance, on January 2nd  VINCI Airports officially became the operator of Salvador International Airport - Deputy Luís Eduardo Magalhães.

During this third and final transition stage, which could last up to 6 months, the new concessionaire will be assisted by Infraero, to guarantee a gradual succession.

January 2 nd marks the operational beginning a 30-year concession which started in August 2017 at the signing of the concession agreement and during which the company will work to promote the harmonious development of the airport, which is an important gateway for many destinations in Bahia.

As is the case in other airports it operates around the world, VINCI Airports will focus on quality of services, generation of air traffic and stimulation of non-aviation activities, developing the commercial areas of the terminal. It will also be responsible for the successful carrying out of major expansion works to be completed in the first four years of the concession.

VINCI Airports also announced the arrival of Julio Ribas as CEO of the Concessionaire Companyin Brazil. "Our entire team will be mobilized to offer the best possible experience to passengers on their journey through the airport and VINCI Airports will bring to Brazil all its expertise as a global operator during the its airport renovation process," said the executive.

Executive Team

Julio Ribas is an aeronautical engineer and graduate of the Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA) and has worked in large companies such as Procter & Gamble, SCA and, more recently, Swissport. Mr. Ribas will lead operations of Salvador International Airport supported by a team of executives with vast international experience. The director of operations will be Bruno Desveaux, who has worked for VINCI Airports since 2007 in airports such as Grenoble, in France, and Siem Reap, in Cambodia. Lorenzo Rebel, who has worked for the group since 2015, takes over as CFO, after holding the same position at Aéroport du Grand Ouest in France and having been the company’s Regional CFO for Western France.

With over 13 years of experience in airlines and airports, Marc Gordien will be the commercial director. The position of technical director will be held by Yann Le Bihan, who worked for eight years at Aerodom, a VINCI Airports company that operates six airports in the Dominican Republic.

VINCI Airports has signed the Concession Agreement for the airport of Salvador in Brazil

VINCI Airports signed on July 28th the Concession Agreement with ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) for the Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães airport, located in the city of Salvador, Brazil.

The Concession Agreement, which covers the expansion, maintenance and exploitation of the existing terminal and the runway system, states that VINCI Airports will be gradually assuming the management of the airport of Salvador, after a contractual transition period, and working closely with Infraero and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and efficient handover.

VINCI Airports will apply its unique global airport operator model and international experience to start developing the Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães airport, for the benefit of Brazil, the state of Bahia, the city of Salvador and its citizens.

Priorities defined by VINCI Airports include development of traffic, thanks to its dynamic airline marketing expertise and data-driven approach, and improvement of quality of service to leverage customer experience.

VINCI Airports wins the concession for Salvador airport in Brazil

On completion of a call for tenders initiated by ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil), VINCI Airports was this Thursday awarded the concession for Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes airport, for a 30-year term. Located in the city of Salvador, this airport is currently managed by the public operator Infraero.

With more than 7.5 million passengers welcomed in 2016, the Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes airport in Salvador is Brazil's 9th-largest airport. The concession contract won by VINCI Airports covers operation, maintenance and extension-upgrading of the existing terminal and the runways system.

This success marks a new stage in VINCI Concessions' development strategy in Latin America. VINCI Airports is, notably, concessionaire since 1st October 2015 for a 20-year term of the Santiago de Chile International Airport, in the framework of a consortium, and since 9 April 2016, valid until March 2030,  of six airports in the Dominican Republic, including that of Santo Domingo capital city.
